Location/Directions:

Parking Lot on right, across form Visitor Center

(About a 15-minute drive from Suffern, N.Y.) In NJ, take Route 17 North OR Route 287 North to NY Thruway/Route 87 North towards Albany. Take first exit, 15A Suffern/Sloatsburg, off NY Thruway. Turn left at light onto Route 17 North (Do not confuse NY Route 17 North with the NJ one – these are separate highways.) Take first main exit bearing right for Route 72 / Sterling Mine Road. Drive about 2.8 miles to traffic light for Route 84 / Long Meadow Road. Turn right on Route 84. Travel about 3.6 miles to Old Forge Road on the left. Turn left on Old Forge Road and follow it to the Sterling Forest Visitor Center (which will be a log building on your left, slightly down the hill.) Since parking at the Visitor Center is limited to 15 minutes, you must park in the “Highlands Environmental Research” parking lot on your right off Old Forge Rd. (and up the hill across from the Visitor’s Center). Meet the AFW group on the front porch of the Visitor’s Center.
