AFW Adirondacks Hiking Weekend on 7/29/2023-8/1/2023

Adirondacks Hiking Weekend Saturday July 29 - Tuesday August 2, 2023

AFW is planning on running its summer weekend of hiking in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains at the Rock and River B&B in Keane, NY.

Hikes in the Adirondacks range from moderate to strenuous. While we were thinking of Ampersand, a strenuous in/out hike, and Poke-O-Moonshine, a Mod+/Mod, end to end hike, these may be changed based on the participants.   We usually do have shorter warm-up and good-bye hikes on Sat. & Tues. Please note, the “plan” is subject to change depending on the weather and participants. We'll spend the late afternoons and evenings resolving the world’s problems, books we’ve read, new and old passions. No matter what, we never seem to run out of topics.

The price includes 3 nights, double occupancy rooms. However, due to Covid our B&B has turned into a B and BYOF (bring your own food) as explained below. Also, not all rooms are created equal but the price is the same. There are 2-3 singles, 2 2-bed rooms, and 1 3-bed room. We will try to accommodate requests on a first come/first serve basis.

Please register with Deposit by 6/15/2023.  Balance of payment due 7/1/2023.

FEE: $370 for members. ($420 for non-members)

MEALS – Rock and River is a complete house with an industrial size kitchen that includes a 6 burner stove, oven, 2 fridges (1 with a freezer), microwave, dishwasher, BUNN coffeemaker, hot pot, all pots/pans/dishes etc. and 2 grills on the large deck. Everyone is responsible for their own food for all 3 meals. HOWEVER, the past few years we have followed Mickey's suggestion and organized a potluck for dinners and I would like to continue that tradition. More info to those who sign up. AFW will provide regular and decaf coffee, milk and sugar and an assortment of teas. Everyone brings their own breakfast, lunch, adult beverages.

There are also some great restaurants in the area (list to be provided) if anyone wants to go out to dinner or order takeout.

If anyone has any questions on how this works, just contact Jackie (

More details will be sent to those who  sign up.

AFW Refund Policy - If AFW cancels a Weekend Trip for any reason, a full refund will be given.
